Vintage Service Rifle 100 yards Match, 5th April 2025

Yet another sunny day for an HBSA match; this must be some kind of record. It was shirtsleeves weather for the inaugural Vintage Service Rifle League match, and 11 shooters turned out on Short Siberia to contest it.
There were three stages to the match (the course of fire is here, for anyone interested), all combinations of standing and kneeling, shot against the clock. The 36in target is invitingly simple to hit from prone, when you have all the time in the world…. but add time pressure and some positional changes and it gets decidedly harder. Some creditable scores were recorded, however, with an interesting range of firearms – Martini Henrys, Rolling Blocks, Sniders, a Mauser 71/84, a Trapdoor and a Vetterli.
