HBSA Long Range Midland Rook & Rabbit Rifle Competition Stourport on Severn, Saturday 24th June 2023

Dear Competitors

Thank you all for competing in this Long Range Rook and Rabbit competition.

This year it was decided to add two more categories to allow the use of Schutzen rifles and also Park type rifles (medium bore Central Fire).
Therefore, the Schutzen and Sherwood classes have been added.

The Schutzen created a lot of interest from the competitors as most had never seen such a rifle, to support this event Fred Boulton allowed me (Paul Smith) to enter the match using his rifle.
Unfortunately, Fred was unable to shoot as he has recently had a knee replacement but is recovering well.
I must say it was an experience to shoot this rifle, its heavy, has a very strange stock arrangement and the set trigger is “SUPER LIGHT”, think trigger and it’s gone off.
Having said that it shot very well and I was pleased to have put in a respectable score, with all 3 stages 25m, 50m and 100m being shot Off Hand unsupported.

As always, I would very much like to thank the Committee and Members of Stourport on Severn Rifle club for allowing us the use of their range.

The weather was hot and humid all day long.

We attracted 8 entrants; shooting 25 matches, a total 75 cards.

The usual supply of superb biscuits were once again provided by Mrs Boulton, with tea and coffee from Chris Gray.

Many thanks to all those who attended and helped out during the day.
I hope everyone had a good day and that we see you all again.

Best Regards
Paul Smith

Plus a big thankyou to Fred for bring the rifle along and allowing me to demonstrate it in action.
