HBSA Fixed Bayonet / No Bayonet match Report & Results 30th March 2025

To everyone’s surprise, the weather for this year’s Fixed Bayonet/No Bayonet competition was beautiful. And naturally, to nobody’s surprise, the Range Office put us on lanes 1 and 2 at the 100 yard range on Short Siberia, where the covered firing points would have afforded marvellous shelter on a typical wet day, but which were of no practical use whatever…

… and were in fact a significant pain, given that the benches there are fixed in concrete and we were obviously expecting to shoot standing, kneeling and prone. There was some head-scratching over how this was to be achieved, at first. But by dint of experimentation, and with the NRA’s helpful guidance, we determined that the shoot could in fact progress as planned, albeit that everyone had to take care changing position in the narrow-ish spaces between benches. Many thanks to those who brought shooting mats and allowed us all to use them – the ground was VERY hard and unforgiving!

In the end, everything passed off smoothly enough and more than 45 score cards were submitted by match participants. Some reasonably unusual firearms made an appearance, with some good scores recorded. Many thanks to Dave Carroll, as usual, for all his work in making these events happen.
